About this payment receipt template
A payment receipt (also called a receipt of payment) confirms that money was received - for an invoice, a deposit, an installment, or a service. Unlike an invoice, which requests payment, a payment receipt is issued after the money arrives and serves as the payer's proof.
What a payment receipt includes
- ✓Payer and payee names and contact details
- ✓Amount received and payment method
- ✓What the payment covers, with any invoice reference
- ✓Date received and remaining balance, if any
Payment receipt vs. invoice
An invoice asks for payment; a payment receipt confirms it happened. Send an invoice first, then issue a receipt of payment once the funds arrive - especially for cash, bank transfers, and partial payments where the payer needs proof.
